The Istanbul Research Institute continues to offer free guided tours of the exhibition The Photography Studio of an Adventurous Architect: Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu 1893–1982, which sheds light on the life of one of the most unconventional architects of his time, spanning the late Ottoman and early Republican periods.
Organized by the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Istanbul Research Institute, the exhibition focuses on the life and work of Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu, a striking figure of the late Ottoman and early Republican era. As part of the exhibition program, guided tours invite visitors to explore the architect’s multifaceted identity and the visual memory of the period in greater depth. The third free tour will take place on Thursday, December 25, at 17:00.
The selection of photographs taken by Koyunoğlu from the 1900s onwards, particularly in the 1920s and 1930s, offers insights into both his professional practice and personal life. Images from his student years at the School of Fine Arts (Sanâyi-i Nefîse Mektebi), his military service in Erzurum, his work at the Underground Photography Studio (Yeraltı Fotoğrafhanesi), and his family life bring together the landscapes, architecture, and inhabitants of cities such as Ankara, Istanbul, Bursa, Nevşehir, and Kırşehir.
