A Step Forward by Suna’nın Kızları to Strengthen Child Protection Practices

Committed to ensuring that children grow up in safe and supportive environments, Suna’nın Kızları continues to develop school- and community-based programs in cooperation with local stakeholders. Under the umbrella of the "Neighborhoods Supporting Children" initiative, the focus is on identifying local needs and establishing responsive support structures.

As part of this effort, the “Before It’s Too Late” program—developed by Nirengi Association, a participant in the Suna’nın Kızları School-Centered Solution Circle—was introduced in Şanlıurfa as a core component of the SOP system. With the support of the Şanlıurfa Governorship and the Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate of National Education, the launch event brought together 31 school principals from the Eyyübiye and Haliliye districts.

The session introduced the SOP framework, which guides the management of cases of child abuse in line with Turkey’s Child Protection Law. Attendees also contributed their insights and suggestions regarding its implementation. Following the session, a dedicated SOP training was held for school guidance counselors. In the coming phases, the program aims to extend training to subject teachers to promote consistent application across schools.

Through such initiatives, Suna’nın Kızları continues to foster collective impact with local partners by prioritizing child protection and building safer, more inclusive school environments.
